Made-to-measure glass roof patio cover: crystal-clear luxury for your patio
A glass roof patio cover is the most luxurious way to cover your patio. Instead of a polycarbonate roof, you opt for a genuine glass roof: laminated safety glass that stays crystal clear, doesn't turn yellow and barely scratches. The result is maximum light, an open feel and a look that instantly takes your garden and façade to the next level. Under a glass roof you are sheltered from rain and wind, while keeping a full view of the sky and your garden.
At Alupine we design and produce your glass roof patio cover entirely to measure in our own workshop in the Eindhoven region. The aluminium frame is powder-coated, low-maintenance and withstands wind and weather for years, and the glass roof is made of 44.2 laminated safety glass. You design your cover yourself in our 3D configurator: width, depth, colour, type of glass and any options such as side walls, lighting or a sliding wall. The price you see in the configurator is your final price for the DIY kit, straight away. Installation by our own installers is a separate option shown upfront, so you are never faced with surprises.

Why choose a glass roof?
Glass is, and always will be, the most beautiful material for a patio cover. Whereas polycarbonate can turn yellow, become dull or pick up scratches over time, glass stays crystal clear. A glass roof lets daylight through unfiltered, gives an open, high-end look and creates pleasant light under the cover. Thanks to the smooth, hard surface, most dirt simply washes off in a rain shower and the glass is easy to keep clean.
We use 44.2 laminated safety glass: two layers of glass with a tough interlayer in between. Should the glass ever break, the fragments stick to the interlayer instead of falling down. That is precisely why laminated glass is the standard for roofs above places where people spend time. So you get not only beauty and light, but also a safe, durable roof that lasts for years.
| Glass roof | Polycarbonate roof | |
|---|---|---|
| Clarity | Crystal clear, stays clear | Clear, may turn yellow after some years |
| Scratch resistance | Highly scratch-resistant, hard surface | More prone to scratches |
| Appearance | Luxurious, high-end, premium | Functional and neat |
| Weight | Heavier, installation with a glass lifter recommended | Light, easier to handle |
| Maximum depth | Up to approx. 4 metres | Greater depth possible |
| Cleaning | Dirt rinses off easily, smooth surface | Slightly more prone to grime |
| Price | Higher, an investment in luxury | More affordable entry level |
In a nutshell: choose glass if you want maximum light, a luxurious look and a roof that stays clear. Choose polycarbonate if you want a lighter, more affordable roof or need an extra-large span. Not sure? Feel free to call us on +31 85 400 1985 and we'll gladly advise you, with no obligation.
Which types of glass can you choose?
With a glass roof patio cover, it's all about the type of glass you have fitted in the roof. Each type has its own quality of light and its own look. All versions are made of 44.2 laminated safety glass, so you always get the same safety and strength. Below are the three most popular choices.
Clear laminated glass
The classic and most popular option. Clear laminated glass gives maximum daylight and a completely open view of the sky. Ideal if you want the brightest, most transparent result and want to keep your patio as light as possible.
Opal (frosted) glass
Opal glass, also known as frosted or milk glass, filters bright sunlight and gives softer, more subdued light. You keep plenty of daylight under the cover, but with less direct glare and fewer harsh shadows. Pleasant on a south-facing patio where you want to temper the sun.
Tinted glass
Tinted glass gives a calm, understated look and softens the light and heat somewhat. A lovely choice if you want a little more privacy from above or are looking for a sleeker, darker look to match your façade. Ask us about the current options for your situation.
Materials & construction: what really matters
An Alupine glass roof patio cover is built from high-quality materials that are carefully matched for a long service life and a sleek look.
- Aluminium frame: light, strong, rust-free and virtually maintenance-free. Aluminium doesn't warp and lasts for decades.
- Powder-coated finish: a durable, even layer of colour that is colourfast and weather-resistant, with a 10-year guarantee on structure and coating.
- Roof of 44.2 laminated safety glass: two layers of glass with an interlayer in between, so that if it breaks, the fragments stick to the interlayer.
- Integrated drainage: rainwater is neatly carried away via the gutter and the posts, away from your patio and façade.
- Made to measure in our own workshop in the Eindhoven region, so every profile and every glass panel fits precisely.

Sizes and possibilities
Your glass roof patio cover is made entirely to measure to fit the dimensions of your patio. In the configurator you set the exact width and depth. For a glass roof we work to a maximum depth of approx. 4 metres; that is the practical limit within which a glass roof can be built properly and safely. Got a larger patio and want the cover to project further? Then polycarbonate is often a better choice for the extra depth, or we can work out a solution with multiple bays together.
As well as the width and depth, you also choose the height, the number of posts and the colour. Unsure about the ideal dimensions for your situation, for example in relation to the wall height, the roof pitch or the headroom? Feel free to call us on +31 85 400 1985. We're happy to help so the cover fits your home and patio perfectly.
Colours & finish
Choose the RAL colour that suits your home and garden, at no extra cost. The sleek, baked-on powder coating stands up to weather, wind and UV, so it still looks just as neat years later.
Options & accessories
Complete your glass roof patio cover with options that add to your comfort and its appearance. You simply add them in the configurator and see the price update instantly.
LED lighting
Integrated LED spotlights in the structure create atmospheric light in the evening. That way you can enjoy your patio after sunset too, without loose lamps or cables in sight.
Glass sliding walls
With glass sliding walls you close off one or more sides against wind and rain, while keeping the open, transparent character. Ideal for turning your cover into an almost fully enclosed garden room.
Zip screens and side walls
With zip screens or fixed side walls you create extra shelter, privacy and sun shading. Screens are electrically operated and roll neatly away into the structure when you're not using them.
Extra drainage and rain sensors
Opt for neat, integrated drainage tailored to your patio. For screens and sun shading, smart options with wind and rain sensors are available for extra convenience and protection.
Install it yourself or have it installed: your choice
A glass roof is beautiful and strong, but also heavier than polycarbonate. That is why at Alupine you can choose: install it yourself or leave the installation to our own installers. Below we explain honestly what each route involves.
Self-installation
The DIY kit is delivered complete and made to measure, with an installation manual and all fixings. Self-installation is possible, but with a glass roof it is a substantial job: the glass panels are heavy and you'll need at least a few extra pairs of hands and the right tools to lift them safely into place. Handy with tools and have help available? Then it's certainly doable. If you have doubts about lifting and positioning the glass, choose installation by us.
Installation by Alupine
Our recommended route for a glass roof. Our own installers fit the complete cover expertly, including the glass, using a glass lifter for safe and precise work. You don't have to lift anything yourself and you're assured of a sleek, watertight and safe result. Installation is a separate option that you add in the configurator, with its price shown upfront, so you always know the total price.

Delivered or installed
Install it yourself with the instructions included, or let our installers fit it perfectly level. Delivery usually within 10 to 12 working days.
Maintenance & lifespan
A glass roof patio cover is wonderfully low-maintenance. You only need to wipe the powder-coated aluminium frame now and then with water and a soft cloth to remove dust and grime. Don't use abrasive or harsh products; they are unnecessary and can put needless strain on the coating.
You keep the glass roof clear with glass cleaner or simply water and a squeegee. The great thing about glass is that rain washes away a lot of dirt on its own and the surface doesn't turn yellow or dull, as can happen with some plastics. Clean it a few times a year and your cover will look as good as new for years.
Price & delivery time
At Alupine you know exactly where you stand from the outset. You design your glass roof patio cover in the 3D configurator and the price you see there is your final price for the DIY kit. No hidden costs, no surprises afterwards. Every option you add, such as lighting, sliding walls or screens, is immediately reflected in the price.
Would you also like the cover installed? Then add installation as a separate option shown upfront. That way you can see at a glance what the DIY kit costs and what installation by our own installers costs. A glass roof is an investment in luxury and light, and you know exactly what you are paying from the very first moment.
